A zombie apocalypse is only one of our service-related class scenarios, but it's usually the biggest hit with our students.
BECAUSE THE ONLY THING BETTER THAN THREE DAYS OF CMMI TRAINING IS... FOUR!
WHY TAKE THIS CLASS
This one-day course provides an understanding of the CMMI for Services (CMMI-SVC) v1.3, building upon basic CMMI concepts you've already learned in the prerequisite Introduction to CMMI-DEV v1.3. The focus is on the content of the model -- i.e., what's inside of the CMMI for Services. (The occasional zombie slide helps to make it fun, but don't worry -- we include practical scenarios too!)
In our delivery of this class, we provide you with a true appreciation of the model. We'll give you plenty of examples that aren't part of the "official" course. (See our example CMMI-SVC slides.)
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This class (or the three-day Introduction to CMMI-SVC) is required to serve on formal CMMI-SVC appraisal teams, and should be attended by:
- Anyone involved in CMMI for Services-based improvement initiatives (e.g., members of Engineering Process Groups).
- Candidate appraisal team members, regardless of the appraisal's level of formality. (A typical appraisal team is composed mostly of your own employees. See pages 81-85 of the SCAMPI Method Definition Document for guidance on selecting team members.)
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
By the end of the course, you should be able to discuss each of the seven process areas unique to the CMMI for Services:
- Capacity and Availability Management (CAM)
- Incident Resolution and Prevention (IRP)
- Service Continuity (SCON)
- Service Delivery (SD)
- Service System Development (SSD)
- Service System Transition (SST)
- Strategic Service Management (STSM)
WHO TEACHES IT
This class can only be delivered by an instructor certified by the CMMI Institute. (Responsibility for the CMMI was transitioned from the Software Engineering Institute on December 1, 2012.) In our company, all training is conducted by CMMI Institute-Certified Instructor Bill Smith -- who has applied elements of CMM-SVC to his own business!
WHAT YOU GET
- Only when we teach it:
- An SEI-honored instructor

Zombies? Really, Bill?
We weave a zombie apocalypse scenario through this course. But why?
First of all, rest assured we insert other
scenarios as well -- notably information technology (IT) support. But many students appreciate the way we balance practical with fun. And in fact, all elements of the CMMI for Services truly would apply to an emergency response team... zombie-related or not.
So if you're expecting us to talk about help desks... don't worry, we will. We simply extend the conversation a bit to demonstrate how versatile the CMMI for Services actually is!
For more on CMMI-SVC vs. Zombies, see our semi-famous presentation online, or check out our schedule to see if we're delivering it LIVE any time soon. |
